Pollution Prevention and Control - preparation of PPC applications on behalf of companies in the food and drink sector.  Responsible for compiling and writing the applications, which involve analysis of all process materials and emissions, site reporting, waste and energy auditing, a review of any environmental management systems and liaison with SEPA.

Resource Efficiency & Waste Minimisation – completion of a range of resource efficiency and waste minimisation projects, often as part of ISO 14001 development or assisting students on the environmental STEP placement programme.  Worked on the Envirowise panel responding to enquires on all aspects of waste management and minimisation.  Work involved answering telephone enquiries, undertaking counselling visits and waste minimisation audits for a wide range of SME’s within a variety of industrial sectors.

Carbon Management – completion of a feasibility study for a Scottish-tourism industry led carbon offsetting scheme.  Involved establishment of the carbon footprint of the Scottish tourism sector, research in to carbon offsetting schemes worldwide and the preparation of a business plan for the Scheme.  Currently working on developing a carbon footprint for the Scottish pig industry.

Environmental Legislation – keeping up to date with environmental legislation on behalf of clients (in particular environmental permitting, waste management, packaging, WEEE and hazardous substances) and the completion of regular environmental legal compliance audits.

Research Projects – for example, the Tayside Reuse & Refurbishment Project: a scoping study to review current level of recycling, reuse and refurbishment activity within Tayside and possibilities for development.  Specific focus on the local authority and community sector within the context of the Tayside Area Waste Plan.  Involved consultation process with group members.

Energy & Renewables - completed a number of detailed feasibility studies, including one for the large-scale production of biodiesel from waste cooking oil funded through the Scottish Energy Efficiency Office’s Clean Energy Demonstration Scheme and one for the setting up of a wood-pellet production facility for an application to the DTI Bio-Energy Infrastructure Scheme.  Involved extensive research, detailed business planning and SWOT analysis.  Conducted a number of site energy audits and renewables site surveys.

Templates and Toolkits - development of a package for SMEs to assist with EMS development.  The kit uses the MS Office suite and contains all the necessary procedures, forms, training materials and other documentation necessary to meet the requirements of ISO 14001.  The package minimises the time companies spend developing documentation allowing them to concentrate on the actual implementation of the system.
