Bays of Harris Estate

Similarly to the Great Bernera project, Ecodyn (with further assistance from baby-Hydro) was contracted to complete a feasibility study and technical advice and assistance for income generation projects on the Bays of Harris Estate. The study included reviewing several renewable energy technologies such as wind, hydro, marine and tidal. In this project we were able to present a couple of viable wind energy projects, as well as a medium scale hydro development. Unfortunately, because of the proximity of these proposed developments to users (i.e. households and/or businesses) they could not be realised once SSE closed the grid to new application >3.7kW/phase in May 2015. This study was incorporated with a wider evaluation of the economic, social and environmental implications of a community buyout.
